Life in the lab, at the U of I, and in Champaign-Urbana
Our lab is in the Medical Sciences Building, which is centrally located and just off of the beautiful Main Quad. Many lunch and coffee options are within a 5-10 minute walk. For the musically or theatrically inclined, the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts is right across the street. The MSB, the home of the College of Medicine, is right in the hub of life and biomedical sciences research on campus. The world-renowned Beckman Institute is less than a 15-minute walk away.
The campus straddles the twin cities of Champaign-Urbana, which together provide a livable, affordable, and friendly community. For those who need a taste of the "big city," Chicago, Indianapolis, and St. Louis are all within a 3-hour drive or Amtrak ride. The U of I owns a commuter airport, which provides connections between Champaign-Urbana, Chicago, and Dallas. Sports fans can drape themselves in orange and blue and cheer on the Fighting Illini in several NCAA Division I sports.
